What to do while you are here…
On the edge of the Peak District, Endon makes an excellent base for exploring the hills and valleys of the national park. The market town of Leek is just 5 miles away, and it’s a half hour drive through the beautiful countryside to get to Alton Towers 17 miles away.
This is a great base if you are interested in exploring railways and canals, with the Caldon Canal on the doorstep and the Trent & Mersey Canal a few miles away. The Churnet Valley Railway and Rudyard Lake Steam Railway are both less than 5 miles away, and slightly further afield is the Foxfield Railway and the Apedale Valley Light Railway. Stoke-on-Trent is famous for its Potteries, and many of them have visitor centres, tea rooms and hands-on studios making for a great day out. There are various museums and visitor centres in the local area, and two National Trust properties nearby , Biddulph Grange and Little Moreton Hall, 20 mins and 25 mins away respectively.
There are 3 pubs in easy walking distance – one half a mile away, another two within ¾ mile (and many more accessible on foot along footpaths or the adjacent canal towpath). Just 10 minutes walk away is The Endon Railway Tearoom, serving tea and coffee, cakes and filled Staffordshire Oatcakes (a local delicacy).
